In The Playoffs
About

We run the numbers so you don't have to

In The Playoffs is a sports analytics platform that calculates real-time playoff probabilities for the NHL, NBA, and MLB using Monte Carlo simulation. Every morning, our models run 25,000 simulated seasons to answer one question: who's actually going to make the playoffs?

Our Mission

Sports analytics has transformed how teams are built and how games are played — but most of that analysis stays locked behind paywalls or buried in academic papers. We built In The Playoffs to make rigorous, data-driven playoff probability accessible to every fan.

We don't predict who should win. We simulate what will likely happen based on current standings, remaining schedules, and historical performance patterns. The difference matters: our models respect the inherent randomness of sports while still surfacing meaningful signal from the noise.

Whether you're a casual fan checking if your team has a shot, a fantasy player weighing roster decisions, or a sports bettor looking for an edge, our daily-updated probabilities give you a clearer picture than the standings alone.

How It Works

Live Game Data

We pull real-time standings, schedules, and results from trusted sports data providers — the same sources used by major sports analytics platforms.

Monte Carlo Simulation

Each simulation run plays out the remaining season 25,000 times, sampling game outcomes based on team strength metrics and home/away splits.

Daily Updates

Models re-run every morning after overnight games are processed. Playoff odds reflect the latest results within hours of each game ending.

Backtested Accuracy

We validate our models against historical seasons to measure calibration — how well our 70% probability calls actually hit 70% of the time.
