Odds are recalculated every morning at 9 AM ET from 25,000 Monte Carlo simulations of each team's remaining schedule. Read the full methodology.
MLB playoff odds on In The Playoffs are calculated by running 25,000 Monte Carlo simulations of the remaining regular season schedule every day. Each simulation uses adjusted team strength ratings (based on runs scored and allowed), home-field advantage, and current standings to project every remaining game. The percentage of simulations in which a team makes the playoffs is their playoff probability.
12 teams make the MLB playoffs each season — 6 from the American League and 6 from the National League. Each league sends 3 division winners (AL/NL East, Central, West) plus 3 Wild Card teams. The two division winners with the best records get a first-round bye; the other four teams play in the best-of-three Wild Card Series.
The MLB Wild Card is a playoff spot awarded to the three non-division-winner teams with the best regular season records in each league. Wild Card teams enter the postseason as seeds 4, 5, and 6 and play in the Wild Card Series, a best-of-three round against seeds 3, 4, and 5 respectively.
The MLB playoff odds for all 30 teams in the 2026 season are updated daily on In The Playoffs.
